The device features an output enable (OE) and send/receive (DIR) for direction control. A HIGH on OE causes the outputs to assume a high-impedance OFF-state. Inputs include clamp diodes. This enables the use of current limiting resistors to interface inputs to voltages in excess of VCC.

MAX232 TTL to RS232 IC
MAX232 is a communication IC. It is used to convert TTL Signals to RS232 Signal and vice versa.?MAX232?provides RS-232 voltage level outputs (approx. ? 7.5 V) from a single 5 V supply via on-chip charge pumps and external capacitors.
